Mikeltornis

A fishing village - one of the cultural and historical territories of the Livonians’ Shore with a vast, beautiful seashore and the highest beacon (62 m high) in the Baltics – Mikelbaka (buit in 1884). The oldest Latvian beacon Ovisu baka (1814) is situated near by.

Irbene

The former Russian Army village was situated there and still for scientific purposes Ventspils Centre of Radioastronomy is operated  there with two parabolic radio-telescopes. One of them appears to be the largest in the North of Europe and the eight largest in the world (its diameter – 32 m).
